What is Track & Trace?
Track & Trace is a system for the traceability of tobacco products throughout the European Union. Every economic operator (manufacturer, importer, retailer, store, bar, etc.) is obliged to register on the basis of the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) in order to be able to trace the supply chain from production to the consumer, thereby ensuring authenticity and combating illegal trade.

Until when do I need Track & Trace?
All economic operators must have applied for a registration number by May 20th, 2024.
The system must be fully operational by this date in order to be able to track the entire supply chain.

What are the different registration numbers called?
EOID
EOID stands for Economic Operator ID and is the identification code for economic operators. Any company wishing to sell tobacco requires such a number to identify them.
FID
FID stands for Facility Identifier Code and is the identification code of a facility. The facility can be a production site, a warehouse, a retail outlet or even a cigarette vending machine. To receive an FID, you will need to sign into the self-management portal and register a facility.
UI
UI stands for Unique Identifier and is the identification code for each pack containing tobacco products. Each unit pack or aggregated packaging is marked with a unique alphanumerical code during production.
MID
MID stands for MACHINE IDENTIFIER and describes that all machines in which tobacco products are manufactured must obtain an identification code. These identifiers will be part of the requests for unique product identifiers. The machine identifiers are based on the Global Individual Asset Identifier (GIAI) standard of GS1.
What are the prices for Track & Trace?
The costs for registration, implementation and use of the "Track & Trace" system depend on whether you sell to other companies (B2B) or only to end customers (B2C):
STAGE 1:
B2C SALES ONLY
Free of charge
If you only sell to end customers, you do not need a scanner or software, but you do need to register your business. You can register free of charge via our platform.
Examples: Stores, shisha bars, kiosks, etc. with sales ONLY to end customers
STAGE 2:
CASH AND CARRY
Annual fee 1
If you sell to other wholesalers, stores or hookah lounges ON SITE, you will need scanners and the appropriate software to enter transactions into the database. You can register via our platform. You will then be shown the costs.
Examples: Stores with sales to other retailers in their own shop/warehouse (without shipping!)
STAGE 3:
WHOLESALE

If you SHIP to other wholesalers, stores or hookah lounges, you also need scanners and the corresponding software. It is important that you also SHIP and that the goods are not just collected from you (cash and carry). The number of units shipped, scanners and other points are relevant here, which is why we can provide you with a quote after a brief personal consultation.
Examples: Shops/wholesalers with sales and shipping to other retailers.
STAGE 4:
MANUFACTURING

If you are a producer of shisha tobacco, the Track & Trace system must be implemented in your machines.Our experts will visit your production facility and provide you with a customized quote.

You can register for Track & Trace in our registration portal. If the automatic calculation of costs is not possible, our experts will contact you to provide you with a customized quote.
